My Own Infertility Story
Some people may be wondering why I decided to start this site to help women with fertility issues.
The main reason I started the site was I wanted to help other women in the same situation as me. My husband and I have been TTC for 2 years (long to many... and not that long to many others experiencing fertility). We have been doing most of our treatments through an OB/GYN as my husband is in the military, and we are stationed in the middle of nowhere. The RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist) only comes to our area once every 4 months.
I was diagnosed years ago (age 22) with PCOS, though I had symptoms from about the age of 14. Going into my marriage I knew we were likely to have fertility problems. Additionally, the job my husband does in the military can potentially cause him to be sterile. We've been through most testing. My husband's SA (Semen Analysis) came out normal as did my HSG (hysterosalpingogram). On our journey we haven't tried many treatments and have found shortlived success. I began taking Metformin when we began TTC in June 2009, 1500mg at first but it made me so sick that we reduced it to 1250mg. We did our first round of Clomid in January 2011. I had follicles measuring 17mm at the time of my second ultrasound. We chose not to use a trigger shot and to see what would happen. I ovulated 3 days after the ultrasound. This cycle resulted in a chemical pregnancy. We then did another round of Clomid in February 2011, which gave us a BFP. Our joy was fleeting, however, as I miscarried the baby at 7 weeks on March 29th. We took a break until August 2011, when I started my final round of Clomid before pursuing weightloss surgery. WLS would drastically help with my PCOS and thus help my fertility issues as well. There was no BFP for my last Clomid cycle so I had gastric bypass on Sept 7, 2011. We are now on a 12-18 month TTC break as it is not healthy for you or the baby to TTC while you're losing weight so quickly. As soon as my weight stabilizes we will go back to TTC. This will happen sometime between Sept. 2012 and March 2012.
Please, if you have any questions feel free to email me or find me on facebook. I also write a lot about my infertility and pregnancy loss journey on my blog. Additionally, I am the founder of a "Infertile Military Couples" support page on facebook. If you would like more information about the support group please contact me.
